(SAN
JOSE,CA) California Health Care Interpreting Association (CHIA)
conducted its 7th Annual Educational Conference at Hayes
Mansion, San Jose, California on March 2-3, 2007. Students from
CCSF HCI Programs this year were very fortunate to have a field
trip attending several health care interpreting related workshops
throughout the day conducted by guest speakers, including former
government officials, educators, and experts in the interpreting
field. Workshop topics ranged from HCI legislation, technical aspects
of interpreting, to future technologies in health care interpreting,
which greatly enhanced students’ awareness and knowledge in different
aspects in health care interpreting. This was also a very good
job prospecting opportunity and practice for students to meet in
person with different interpreting agencies that set up as vendors
in the event.
A
highlight of the conference was witnessing the award ceremony for
“Trainer of the Year,” given to Nora Goodfriend-Koven, instructor
and coordinator of the health care interpreter certificate program
at City College of San Francisco.
